18th Century Pair of Tuscan Sideboards Arte Povera
A pair of 18th Century Arte Povera Tuscan sideboards or credenzas in legno laccato painted in a light grey with a blue-grey symmetrical pattern. Each sideboard has two doors, an interior shelf, and key is provided. The top is painted in a wooden color. Minor repairs, original hardware. Wear consistent with age and use.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (walnut or cherry wood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
