18th Century Peacock Lebrillo Bowl Cobalt Blue

An antique Spanish Lebrillo mixing bowl or deep plate in earthenware, made of hand crafted terracotta, originating from Granada, Spain. Featuring a glaze decoration in cobalt blue over a milk-white glaze. A peacock motif is painted to the base of the bowl surrounded close to the rim with a tapered line border. Wear consistent with age and use, weathered condition.

These Fajalauza ceramics originated in the 16th Century in Granada Spain, and derive from the mix of Arabic and Christian art. The hand painted motifs are usually pomegranates, peacocks and flowers or plants.
