19th Century Italian Arte Povera Demi-lune Pinewood Commode - Antique Cabinet

An antique Neo-Classical demi lune console hand painted in the Arte Povera technique, made of hand crafted Pinewood in good condition. This beautifully decorated wall console has an overhanging skirt downwards. It has a beautiful intricate Florentine pattern in light and dark anthracite grey. The top of this furniture has a grey aged patina in grey, with tapered shaped legs. The cabinet has two doors and three interior drawers, consisting its original metal hardware. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1810, Italy.
The type of furniture “Arte Povera“ was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (walnut or cherry wood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
