19th Century Italian Pair of Antique Arte Povera Pinewood Column Pedestals

Early 19th Century, an antique Italian pair of patinated column pedestals Arte Povera, made of hand crafted Pinewood with a square base in legno laccato hand painted with a continuous geometrical light Tuscan pattern light and dark grey. The top is painted in a white washed color. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1830 - 1840, Italy.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (walnut or cherry wood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
