19th Century Louis XVI Cabinet Arte Povera
Late 19th Century, a Louis XVI small commode, Arte Povera, with two drawers and original knobs in legno laccato painted white-grey with a dark geometrical pattern. The top has a bronze-black color and the legs are light grey. Wear consistent with age and use, no key.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (walnut or cherry wood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
