20th Century American Dunbar Sheaf of Wheat Walnut Sofa Table by Edward Wormley

A dark-brown, vintage Mid-Cenutry modern American sofa, side table made of hand crafted Walnut, designed by Edward Wormley and produced by Dunbar in good condition. The round sculptural coffee table is composed with a grey-white Carrara marble top, supported by a spindled base, enhanced by painter metal nailheads. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, United States.
Edward J. Wormley was an American furniture designer, born in 1907, in Oswego, Illinois, United States and passed away in 1995. After high school, Wormley studied for a short time at the Art Institute of Chicago. He started working as an interior designer and decorator for the Marshall Field & Company department store. During the Great Depression, Wormley met the president of the Dunbar Furniture Company of Berne, Indiana, who hired him to upgrade their product line.
Dunbar Furniture Company was an American furniture company, department store, founded in 1910. The company's history remains lost to history.
