20th Century French Oil Painting of Passengers on a Staircase by Gaspard Maillol
A light-blue, grey oil on canvas painting of passengers on a staircase, painted by Gaspard Maillol, in good condition. The antique painting depicts a lovely day in a city with well dressed passengers, representing the 19th Century Impressionism art movement, period. Signed on the lower left and countersigned on the back. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1910 - 1920, France.

Gaspard Maillol was Spanish/French painter, woodcutter, watercolourist, stationer and a publisher born in 1880, in Barcelona, Spain and passed away in 1946 in Paris, France. Most of his paintings are representing the Impressionist & Modern art movement, period. After his studies in Bèziers, France, Maillol met the Hungarian painter Jòsef Rippl-Rónai who introduced him to the paint world. During the WW1, he designed churches which were published in 1926.
