20th Century Italian Barovier Murano Glass Tear-Drop Pendant by Ercole Barovier

A vintage Mid-Century modern Italian chandelier made of hand blown smoked Murano glass, designed by Ercole Barovier and produced by Barovier & Toso in good condition. The detailed tall, round pendant is composed with six twisted drops which are supported by a metal base, the top part is particularized by a thorn cup. The ceiling lamp is featuring a six light socket. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1940 - 1960, Murano, Italy.

Ercole Barovier was an Italian entrepreneur and designer born in 1889 Murano, Italy and passed away in 1974. Barovier went to study in Venice to become a doctor, but never finished his studies. After World War I, in 1920, he decided to work with his father, proving to have an incredible talent in glass making. In 1929, he discovered the Primavera technique, a transparent and crackled glass. In 1936, Barovier took over the company.

Barovier & Toso is an Italian company, founded in 1225 in Murano, Italy. The company is one of the oldest family businesses in the world, originally founded as Barovier. In 1936, the merged with the Toso family’s Fratelli Toso Glassworks. The company is specialized in Venetian glass and lighting.
