20th Century Swedish Orrefors Table Lamp - Sculptural Light by FA. W. Johansson

A sculptural, vintage Mid-Century modern Swedish table lamp with a new black shade, made of hand blown Orrefors glass, featuring a one light socket in good condition. The small dark-brown, black undercoat Scandinavian desk light was designed, produced by FA. W. Johansson and Orrefors, signed by Orrefors at the bottom. Original metallic label. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1940 - 1960, Sweden, Scandinavia.

FA. W. Johansson was an entrepreneur who corporate with other Swedish glassmakers to manufacture his designs, products which he then marketed. Johansson understood, knew the value of branding and used most often both labels and engraved signatures. His designs are often signed FA.W Johansson, FA means, primarily firm as in, the firm of W Johansson. Johansson's personal life and professional training remains lost in history.

Kosta Glasbruk, later known as Kosta Boda was a Swedish glasswork founded by two officers, Anders and Georg Bogislaus Stael von Holstein, in 1792. At the beginning they produced window glasses, chandeliers and drinking glasses. Since 1898, art and crystal glass has been produced under the brand of Orrefors. In 1950, the Swedish designer Vicke Lindstrand joined Kosta Glasbruck as an artistic director.
