20th Century Swiss Pair of Tilted Raised Garden Cement Planters by Willy Guhl

pon-1009

A pair of vintage Mid-Century modern Swiss planters designed by Willy Guhl for Eternit, in good condition. Each of the sculptural planters features a shallow, tilted saucer bowl resting on its original matching base. They have been hand crafted from light weight fiber cement, these Swiss garden ornaments are both durable and weather-resistant. The surfaces display a naturally aged weathered patina, enhancing their organic texture and vintage charm. For out-door, undercover use. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, Switzerland.

Willy Guhl was a furniture maker, interior designer, teacher and a product designer born in 1915, in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland and passed away in 2004. Guhl finished his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich, Switzerland. He opened his own design studio and workshop in 1939. In 1943, he co-founded the Association of Swiss Interior Designers and in 1966, the Association of Swiss Industrial Designers.
