Antique Boar Garden Statue in Limestone
A vintage finely weathered limestone garden statue of a boar. The hand carved stone animal statue is depicted in a half rising position. The animal statue is positioned on a rectangular base and has an additional shallow irregular water basin or trough towards the front. Wear consistent with age and use. The classical sculpture originated on the slaying of the Calydonian boar by Meleager. The original which was badly damaged in 1762, but restored can be seen in the Uffici Museum in Florence. Weathered patina, wear consistent with age and use. Circa mid 20th Century, Italy.
