Late 18th Century Armoire Arte Povera
Circa 1790, a Tuscan armoire or tall cupboard in legno laccato hand painted with a continuous Tuscan geometrical pattern in dark and light grey. The interior has a striking blue color. The top is decorated with a large decorative molding. Wear consistent with age and use.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (walnut or cherry wood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
