Pair of 1900 Tuscan Columns Arte Povera
A pair of circular column commodes with a square base in legno laccato hand painted with a continuous geometrical Tuscan pattern in dark and light grey. A door hides within the column bodice. The interior has a striking blue color, and the top is painted in a white washed color. Original hardware. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1900
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (walnut or cherry wood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
