Late 19th / 20th Century, a monumental winged foot fragment of Mercury (Greek equivalent: Hermes) who is considered the herald of the gods and protector of travelers, merchants and orators. He has the ability to move quickly and freely between the worlds of the mortals and the divine, helped by his winged sandals. Hand carved in limestone, prov. a Roman collection. Wear consistent with age and use.
