18th Century Granada Lebrillo Bowl Large

A large antique Spanish Lebrillo mixing bowl in earthenware, made of hand crafted terra cotta, originating from Granada, Spain. Featuring a glaze decoration in the typical Morisco green over a milk-white glaze. The traditional pomegranate motif is painted to the base of the bowl surrounded close to the rim, with an alternating squiggle border. In good condition with some Victorian pin repairs. Wear consistent with age and use.

These Fajalauza ceramics originated in the 16th Century in Granada Spain, and derive from the mix of Arabic and Christian art. The hand painted motifs are usually pomegranates, peacocks and flowers or plants.
