19th Century Italian Pair of Large Antique Arte Povera Pine Floral Commodes

A late 19th Century, antique Italian pair of large chests in the Arte Povera technique, made of hand crafted painted Pinewood, in good condition. The Tuscan nightstands are composed with two drawers, detailed with round door knobs imitating a star. The commodes are consisting their original metal hardware and keys, particularized by black-white floral décor, standing on four tapered fluted wooden legs. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1870 - 1890, Tuscany, Italy.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (Walnut or Cherrywood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
