20th Century Italian Pair of Antique Sculptural Arte Povera Pinewood Nightstands

Early 20th Century, a pair of sculptural Italian Arte Povera nightstands made of handcrafted painted Pinewood, in good condition. The detailed large bedside tables are composed of two drawers, characterized by round bronze handles. The Tuscan commodes and chests are consisting their original metal hardware and keys, standing on four round wooden legs. The arched cabinets are embellished by equal painted floral décor. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Tuscany, Italy.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (Walnut or Cherrywood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
