A Pair of Green Glazed Striped Anduze Garden Planters in Terra Cotta
pf-1631
A set of two fully glazed green garden urns originate from the south of France. The outdoor or indoor pots are traditionally decorated with vertical stripes, and a drainage hole is provided. The size and finish may vary as they are handmade in French ceramic clay. These planters are not frost-proof.
The iconic Anduze urn traces its origins to the early 17th century, during the reign of King Henry IV. Inspired by the classical elegance of the Medici urn from Florence, a French potter in the town of Anduze blended Italian Renaissance design with Provençal craftsmanship, creating the first hand-thrown terracotta urn in Southern France. Over time, the Anduze pot became a hallmark of French garden style, admired for its graceful silhouette, durability, and decorative charm.
