Pair of Vintage Anduze Garden Urns in Terracotta from Provence

pf-1632

A pair of vintage partially glazed French garden planters in terra cotta. These large raised garden pots from France were hand thrown in terra cotta and the surface has an antique worn yellow patina. These unique large garden vessels are adorned with the traditional decorations cherubs, swags and ribbons which are typical for the region of Provence.

The drainage hole is provided, size and finish may vary as they were handmade. These garden ornaments are not frost proof.

The iconic Anduze urn traces its origins to the early 17th century, during the reign of King Henry IV. Inspired by the classical elegance of the Medici urn  from Florence, a French potter in the town of Anduze blended Italian Renaissance design with Provençal craftsmanship, creating the first hand-thrown terracotta urn in Southern France. Over time, the Anduze pot became a hallmark of French garden style, admired for its graceful silhouette, durability, and decorative charm.
