A Set of Vintage Rocaille Faux Bois Garden Chairs and Table in Concrete from France

gf-1136

A set of four vintage French Faux Bois seats and side table in concrete, circa 1950s. The beautifully handcrafted backrests sit on thick garden seats. The circular garden furniture sits on four legs.

The faux bois has an aged weathered patina, which adds to the charm of these garden furnishings. Beautiful for indoor and outdoor use.

Wear consistent with age and use.

Faux Bois refers to an artisanal imitation of wood and was most likely first crafted by the French Rocailleurs (garden craftsmen) in the late 19th Century through the 1940s. The structures were created with chicken wire, metal rods and others. Once shaped a combination of mortar, concrete, and grout was applied onto the structure. While the mixture was still wet the fine sculpting was artfully formed, and the imitation of the wood was achieved.
