An antique Italian mortar and pestle hand-carved from solid marble. The mortar features a thick rounded rim and a deep interior bowl, shaped for durability and daily use. The naturally worn surface and subtle variations in the stone reflect age and long-standing utilitarian purpose. The accompanying pestle (the hand-held grinding tool) is also carved from marble, with a simple cylindrical form and softened edges from use. Together, the set balances function and sculptural presence. Wear consistent with age and use. Italy.
