Lebrillo Bowls, A Mediterranean Heritage

Antique European Lebrillo bowls are terracotta vessels traditionally produced in Southern Europe and decorated with hand-applied green slip in a folk style. Their interiors are painted with floral and geometric motifs using direct, confident brushwork, reflecting long-established regional pottery traditions.

Originally made for everyday domestic use, Lebrillo bowls were produced in pottery centers across Spain and the Mediterranean from the 18th through the early 20th centuries. They were valued for both their durability and decorative presence.

The natural warmth of the terracotta is complemented by green glaze patterns characteristic of Mediterranean earthenware. Surface wear, light glaze loss, and subtle irregularities remain visible, contributing to an authentic patina developed over time.

At Authentic Provence, we offer a curated selection of antique Lebrillo bowls in multiple sizes, each with distinct variations in green slip decoration and patterning, allowing them to be displayed individually or grouped together for visual impact.

Today, Lebrillo bowls are appreciated as decorative objects. Their generous proportions make them well suited for open shelving, wall display, or use as sculptural elements within a curated interior.
