Antique small hand-carved limestone statuette of Pan playing the transverse lute. The Italian garden ornament sits on an original base adorned with a central fan and lateral scrolls. Minor restorations and beautiful aged patina. Pan was the god of the wild and nature in ancient Greek mythology. The statue of Pan has the legs, huffs, and horns of a goat, similar to a faun or Sartyr in the 18th and 19th century, making it a significant figure in the romantic movement. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 20th Century, Italy.
