A humorous set of four vintage dwarf garden statues. These hand carved limestone statuettes are positioned on the original stone plinths. Individually the sculptures show a feature to a profession. Beautifully aged patina throughout, wear consistent with age and use. Circa 20th century, Italy

These garden ornaments were influenced by the famous Villa Valmarana ai Nani in Vicenza, Italy. Those grotesque statues were placed on the garden walls in the 18th Century, in order to comfort the daughter of the house as she was of short statue. Similar statues can be still viewed today in the Chateau Mirabell in Salzburg, Austria.
