Winged Victory Nike hand carved in limestone. The statue was created not only to honor the goddess, Nike, but also to commemorate a naval action. It conveys a sense of action and triumph, as well as, portraying artful flowing drapery as though the goddess were descending to alight upon the prow of a ship. The winged statue is among the most known pieces in the Louvre Museum. Circa 20th Century from an English estate in Southern France.
