Fruit Baskets & Finials
Carved Italian and French fruit baskets in carved limestone serve as sculptural finials in classical and revival style landscapes and estates. Large European hand crafted baskets in terracotta exist as pairs, often in the 19th century in origin with detailed grapes, apples and pears. These motifs were adapted from Palladian and the Renaissance styles. Also garden ornaments such as spheres in carved limestone have been used atop gateposts, balustrades, columns and pedestals. They symbolize prosperity and fertility. Beyond the fruit baskets, stone spheres serve as a classical architectural finial crowning a pedestal.
