Versailles Planter Box

The handmade Authentic Provence Versailles garden planter is an exact re-edition of the 17th-century French square planter box created for the Gardens of the Château de Versailles under King Louis XIV. Designed by the celebrated landscape architect André Le Nôtre, in collaboration with Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie, the original Caisse de Versailles was conceived to both display and protect citrus trees. With its distinctive four opening wood panels, the planter allowed gardeners to tend the roots with ease and transport the prized orange and lemon trees into the Orangerie during the winter months. Today, these historic citrus tree planter boxes remain admired worldwide as iconic French-style planters, uniting royal heritage with practical horticultural design. Each Authentic Provence Versailles planter box is handmade from durable teak wood, reinforced with a strong aluminum frame, and finished with an aerating aluminum grill base to promote drainage and root health. Offered in our curated 2025 Color Collection, or custom finished in any Benjamin Moore shade, these timeless orange tree planter boxes bring the elegance of Louis XIV’s Versailles into contemporary landscapes,  a perfect blend of French history, master craftsmanship, and refined garden style.
