A Greek Peloponnese olive oil jar with the typical handcrafted ribbed Nekuma decoration on its round bodice. The white washed patina was applied to protect the terracotta clay from harsh weather conditions or to cool food and olive oil during the summer time. These antique garden pottery vessels were often used for storage and transportation. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa late 19th Century
