Pair of 19th Century Greek Peloponnese Olive Jars

This unique pair of late 19th Century Greek Peloponnese olive oil jars features the traditional handcrafted ribbed Nekuma decoration on their rounded bodices. Both jars are finished with a whitewashed patina, applied to protect the terracotta clay from harsh weather conditions or to help cool food and olive oil during the summer months. These antique garden pottery vessels were commonly used for storage and transportation. Wear consistent with age and use.
