19th Century Grey-Ecru Italian Antique Tuscan Walnut Corner Chair Arte Povera

A 19th Century Arte Povera Florentine sgabello chair in hand crafted Walnut with a raised storage area and hand painted slender backrest and sides, in good condition. This antique Tuscan corner, side chair has a hand painted geometrical design with original patina in sienna, grey and ecru. After the Italian 16th Century original, made in the 19th Century, in Italy. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use.

This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (Walnut or Cherrywood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
