A hand-carved limestone throne or king’s seat featuring two mythological sphinx figures flanking either side. Each sphinx is depicted with a lion’s body and a female bust. Carved scrolls connect to the demi-lune backrest, while the upper section is adorned with a central crest motif and two spherical finials. Originating from an English estate in Liguria, Italy. Circa late 19th century.
