19th Century Italian Pair of Antique Arte Povera Pine Commodes - Tuscan Cabinets

A late 19th Century, antique Italian pair of commodes in the Arte Povera technique, made of hand crafted painted Pinewood in good condition. The Tuscan cabinets are composed with three large drawers, particularized in a geometrical pattern in grey, white and black, detailed with round door knobs. The chests are consisting their original metal hardware and keys, standing on four straight wooden legs. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1870 - 1890, Tuscany, Italy.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (Walnut or Cherrywood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
