19th Century Italian Terracotta Olive Oil Jar from Puglia

The antique 19th century Italian over scaled jar was made by hand in enameled covered terracotta. This type of handmade olive oil jar from Puglia has been used since centuries ago. Typically they were used to store grains or olive oil. Each of the beautifully crafted vessels are unique in height, form and color. The vase has lateral handles and an outlet for excess of water. This Mediterranean jar has been partially glazed in variations of warm yellow and hues of earth colors. A wonderful warm glaze with a richer pigment at the top amidst the angled handles. All original patina throughout. The surface has slight imperfections due to age. Weathered condition, wear consistent with age and use. Circa 19th century, Prov. Puglia, Italy
