19th Century Monumental Italian Terracotta Olive Oil Jar

An antique Italian oversized jar made by hand in enameled covered terracotta. These traditionally hand crafted olive oil jars from Puglia have been used since centuries. Typically they were used to store grains and olive oil. Each of the beautifully crafted vessels are unique in height, form and color. The large vase has lateral handles and an outlet for excess of water. This Mediterranean jar has been partially glazed in variations of warm yellow and hues of earth colors. A wonderful warm glaze with a richer pigment at the top amidst the angled handles. All original patina throughout. The surface has slight imperfections due to age. Weathered condition, wear consistent with age and use. Circa 19th Century, Prov. Puglia, Italy
