20th Century Swiss Modern Cement Saucer Garden Planter by Willy Guhl & Eternit

A single, vintage Mid Century modern Swiss saucer planter designed by Willy Guhl for Eternit, resting on a zinc coated metal stand. A very large and shallow planter made of fiber cement, in good condition. Naturally aged weathered surface and weather resistant. Predrilled holes for easy drainage. For out-door, undercover use. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, Switzerland.
Willy Guhl was a furniture maker, interior designer, teacher and a product designer born in 1915, in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland and passed away in 2004. Guhl finished his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich, Switzerland. He opened his own design studio and workshop in 1939. In 1943, he co-founded the Association of Swiss Interior Designers and in 1966, the Association of Swiss Industrial Designers. Guhl's work is known for his weather-resistant cement designs produced by the Swiss company Eternit.
