20th Century Swiss Vintage Elephant Ear Garden Planter by Willy Guhl & Eternit

A vintage Mid-Century modern Swiss Handkerchief or Elephant Ear planter made of light weight cement, designed by Willy Guhl for Erternit, in good condition. The single garden planter is reinforced with fiber, having its original weathered patina, detailed with plant residue and moss. Drainage hole provided. For out-door, undercover use. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, Switzerland.

Willy Guhl was a furniture maker, interior designer, teacher, and product designer born in 1915, in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, and passed away in 2004. Guhl finished his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich, Switzerland. He opened his own design studio and workshop in 1939. In 1943, he co-founded the Association of Swiss Interior Designers and in 1966, the Association of Swiss Industrial Designers. Guhl's work is known for his weather-resistant designs in cement.
