20th Century French Painted Metal Châteauneuf-du-Pape Harvest Carrier or Hotte painted in Black
DEC-1849
A vintage French grape-harvesting metal hotte of tapered form with a worn, time-softened surface, in good condition. The painted metal vessel features the iconic lettering Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with the two crossed keys entwined, and retains its original carrying straps traditionally used for vineyard work.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a historic commune in the southern Rhône Valley, renowned for its vineyards and celebrated red wine appellation, with much of its arable land devoted to viticulture.
A charming and characterful decorative object, ideal for a wine cellar, bar area, kitchen, or restaurant interior. Minor fading and surface wear of the paint, commensurate with age and use, contribute to the desirable patina.
Circa 1920–1950, France.
