Small Antique Mediterranean Terracotta Jar

A 19th Century jar with beautiful proportions, two handles and white washed surface. The antique patina was applied to protect the terracotta clay from the harsh weather conditions or to cool food and olive oil during the summer time. Each hand thrown classic Greek amphora is unique in dimensions and surface. Typically these vases are embellished with a ring decor along the curved Baluster shaped bodice. Weathered patina, wear consistent with age and use. Circa late 19th Century
