Umbrella Stand with Handle Majolica
dec-1631
This very decorative umbrella stand or objet d’art is painted by hand.
The Italian Majolica dates back to the Renaissance period. In 1530, the artisans began to design their pottery onto low raised foot with many different decorations (garlands, palmettes, arabesques). In addition to the lustrous design, they used the beautiful rich colors blue, burnt orange, red, yellow and green. After a long hiatus of this traditional work of art, the production restarted again in the 19th century with the goal to restore the Renaissance tradition in Central and Southern Italy.
