A Vert de Provence Glazed Anduze Garden Planter in Terra Cotta With Four Handles
pf-1468
A French garden pot in terra cotta clay with four handles in a green Provencal illustrious glaze. This beautiful urn is hand thrown and hand painted in Anduze, France. These planters are not frost-proof. Each planter is hand thrown and therefore each will have different variations in finish and dimensions.
The iconic Anduze urn traces its origins to the early 17th century, during the reign of King Henry IV. Inspired by the classical elegance of the Medici urn from Florence, a French potter in the town of Anduze blended Italian Renaissance design with Provençal craftsmanship, creating the first hand-thrown terracotta urn in Southern France. Over time, the Anduze pot became a hallmark of French garden style, admired for its graceful silhouette, durability, and decorative charm.
